Statement of Purpose

For this blog I plan to write about two of my primary interests, music and movies. Out of all the people I talk to regularly, except for my dad (in which its scary), I know the most about music and it's history. For the most part I will either be writing random thoughts I have with the music industry and ranting on it currently, making lists similar to the rolling stone top 500 albums and 100 guitarists, not on that scale but similar, and reviewing albums. The amount of music I listen to is quite massive and impressive to any rock aficionado. My favorite bands consist of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Beatles, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, The Dire Straits, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and that barely scratches the surface of what i listen to. I also listen to a bit of old school rap including Biggie Smalls, Run DMC, EPMD, The Beastie Boys, and then theres some other famous artists in genres i haven't mentioned.

I'd also consider myself a movie critic. This trait unexpectedly occurred upon me a couple years ago, and its one that near no one understands, sometimes i fail to. I used to be near targeted for my commentary on films. Many believe that i'm really unusual for not going into another another average, possibly mediocre action film and coming out and talking about the numerous flaws that they it may have. Not that I blame them, but because this decade's film industry in that so much of the time focuses on blowing up as many buildings and other architecture as possible, but cant spend a single penny on better actors and reasonable script. Because of this, coming across a true classic that will live up to Aliens, Terminator 2, and Saving Private Ryan won't be coming across as often as anyone will hope. I hope to write a review on a movie if i see one that i feel truly opinionated on.

Because I am writing this blog for my english class, there is a purpose to this. I hope to improve my writing in a two major ways. One, i feel like I often repeat myself too much, and two, when I write a review, I want it to be as close to a review from an official source like allmusic, IGN, or rolling stone as i possibly can. I need to have better flow and have more intuitive responses.
